Dutch National Ballet and ISH remix ‘Swan Lake’ for ADE at Gashouder
Dutch National Ballet and ISH Dance Collective present a one-off ‘Swan Lake Remixed for ADE’ at Gashouder in Amsterdam on October 21.
A classical ballet company and a hip-hop collective are remixing ‘Swan Lake’ for the opening of Amsterdam Dance Event 2026. Dutch National Ballet and ISH Dance Collective will present ‘Swan Lake Remixed for ADE’ at Gashouder on Wednesday, October 21, as part of the festival’s cultural opening programme and its 30 YEARS ADE Icon Series, which marks three decades of the event.
The production retells the ballet through classical dance, hip-hop, electronic music and digital art. Dancers from Dutch National Ballet and its Junior Company share the stage with ISH performers and guest dancers from other disciplines. The themes are freedom, longing, temptation and the tension between light and darkness.
Ernst Meisner, director of Dutch National Ballet, and Marco Gerris, artistic director of ISH Dance Collective, are directing. Rik Ronner composed the music, Ben Kreukniet handles lighting and video, and Oliver Haller designed the costumes. Principal dancers Salome Leverashvili, Timothy van Poucke and Giorgi Potskhishvili lead the cast, joined by guests Zoë Greten, Ahmad Joudeh and Sedrig Verwoert.
The two companies have worked together before, on ‘GRIMM’ and ‘Dorian’, which also combined classical ballet and hip-hop. The production coincides with the tenth anniversary of their collaboration and the 25th anniversary of creative production agency XSAGA. More information is in the official ADE programme.
