Akai’s MPK Mini Plus II adds Glitch, Mutate, Strum and Freeze for $169.99

The 37-key controller gets a full-color display, eight RGB pads, three CV/Gate outs and a redesign in line with the MPK Mini IV.

Akai Professional has launched the MPK Mini Plus II, MusicTech reported. The 37-key controller has a full-color display and a new set of creative tools: Glitch, Mutate, Strum, Freeze, Chords and Follow. The Arpeggiator, Chord Creator and Note Repeat modes have all been expanded too.

The Plus II drops its predecessor’s design and lines up with the MPK Mini IV keyboards Akai introduced a year ago. The front panel gets redesigned pitch and modulation wheels and octave and transpose buttons, plus an upgraded mini keybed and eight velocity- and pressure-sensitive RGB MPC pads.

The controller runs standalone or with MPC Desktop. It integrates with MPC 3, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, FL Studio and other DAWs, and it is fully compatible with NKS in Native Instruments’ Komplete Kontrol ecosystem. It has a USB-C power input, a full-size five-pin MIDI output, three CV/Gate outputs for external synths and modular gear, and a quarter-inch sustain pedal input. Andy Mac, Akai’s Executive Manager of Content, Artist Relations and Business Development, says the deeper MPC, DAW, MIDI and CV integration “gives creators room to build a much bigger setup around one compact keyboard.”

Each unit comes with Akai’s Studio Instrument Collection, more than 1,000 sounds from AIR Music Technology, Moog Music and Akai Professional.

The MPK Mini Plus II is available now at $169.99, £134.99 or €159.99.
