Open firmware gives the M-VAVE FM-1 four swappable synth engines
Joakim Eriksson’s fm1-dock adds BLE-MIDI to the FM-1 and lets you write your own modules and deploy them over USB in seconds.
Joakim Eriksson has introduced fm1-dock, a firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 that swaps between four synth engines live and adds BLE-MIDI support, Synthtopia reported.
Eriksson’s preview video shows the firmware on a real FM-1 and in an emulator, running four instruments. FM-1 SID plays C64 tunes on a cycle-exact 6510 and reSID, including Arkanoid, Wizball and Commando. OberVave, by zvenson, is a 4-track analog poly. CS-1, by twochannels, is a CS-80-style synth.
The fourth is Scintilla, the 1981 Elka Synthex, and the video ends on its laser harp (“Ring mod.”). Eriksson says you can write your own module and deploy it over USB in seconds.
fm1-dock is available now as open firmware on GitHub.
