Master Plan 2 redesigns its limiter and targets saturation by band

The mastering plugin follows about three years of development and adds new limiting algorithms, four blendable saturation types and reference comparison.

Musik Hack has redesigned the Loud circuit in Master Plan 2, giving the limiter and clipper new algorithms aimed at raising perceived loudness while keeping transients and low-frequency information intact, Magnetic Magazine reported. The update follows about three years of development.

True Peak processing has been improved. A new Presence circuit adds two frequency-adaptive release algorithms that change how the limiter behaves.

Users can now blend four saturation types and apply them to specific frequency ranges, for example adding density to the midrange and leaving the lowest frequencies alone. The original Thick circuit stays, joined by Silk, an analog-inspired saturation for the high end. Oversampling and anti-aliasing have been revised too, with Antiderivative Antialiasing running alongside oversampling to cut artifacts in nonlinear processing.

Other additions include a revised metering system, reference track comparison, loudness-matched bypass, and a way to save different mastering settings and automate them through a song. There is also a new interface and a Legacy Mode for existing users.

Master Plan 2 is $179 during an introductory promotion, down from the regular $249. It runs as VST3, AU and AAX on macOS 11 or later and Windows 10 or later, and a free 10-day trial is available. Payment can be spread as a rent-to-own plan of $14.92 a month over 12 payments, with ownership after the last one. Musik Hack also offers upgrade options for existing Master Plan owners.
