Roland’s JUPITER-08 Boutique hits 32 voices, with a wavetable n/vision alongside
A new modeling engine powers the JUPITER-08, while the n/vision adds a wavetable synth to the Boutique line.
Roland has added two synths to its Boutique line: a JUPITER-08 that can be expanded to 32 voices, and the n/vision, an all-new wavetable model.
The JUPITER-08 arrives 45 years after Roland launched the original JUPITER-8. It keeps that synth’s eight-part, two-voice architecture, but players can expand the polyphony internally. Roland also cites “refined voice allocation and pitch behaviour.”
Earlier Boutiques used Roland’s Analogue Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology. The JUPITER-08 switches to ABM, Analogue Behaviour Modelling, a Roland-developed technology said to improve processing capabilities and thus increase polyphony.
The JUPITER-08 also has a two-part, 64-step polyphonic sequencer with an arpeggiator and 17 onboard effects, among them chorus, MFX, phaser, pitch shifter, overdrive, fuzz, drive, bit crusher and lo-fi compressor. There is a dedicated delay, plus a reverb with five types and a shimmer mode. It runs on batteries or over USB-C.
The n/vision is the first wavetable synth in the Boutique lineup. It ships with 63 factory wavetables, and its dual-layer architecture lets you blend two of them. The filter is analog-modeled, with several vintage-inspired filter models. It uses the same sequencer architecture and effects sections as the JUPITER-08.
A wave shaper sits in the signal path. Roland says it “transforms incoming waveforms through non-linear processing, generating new harmonics and unique textures.” Three knobs control it: W.S LFO, WAVE SHAPER and W.S ENV. Modulation options include Step LFO, envelope modulation and oscillator modulation, and the synth offers motion recording. Depending on load, it can reach 56 simultaneous voices. Roland says it lets players “build evocative textures through a tactile synthesizer workflow.”
Both synths have a built-in speaker and a detachable 25-key keyboard. They share a 3.5mm headphone output, a main output, an aux input, 5-pin MIDI in and out, and a USB-C input. Both are available now at $549.99 each.
