Technics SL-1210MKX adds a ±4% pitch range and a heavier chassis
Technics unveiled the new SL-1200 flagship at Amsterdam Dance Event, aimed at touring, club and festival DJs and scratch specialists.
Technics has given the SL-1200 series a ±4% pitch range for the first time. It arrives on the SL-1210MKX, the new flagship that sits above the SL-1210MK7, unveiled at Pacific in Amsterdam during the 30th anniversary edition of Amsterdam Dance Event, MusicTech reported.
The narrow span is meant for finer beatmatching and subtle tempo correction on tracks with closely matched BPMs. At the other end, a new ±50% range widens tempo variation for more creative mixing.
The chassis is significantly heavier and optimally balanced, and it sits on newly designed isolation feet. Technics says the feet resist external vibration and combine feedback isolation with the stability scratching demands. The aim is to reduce the risk of acoustic feedback, so DJs can run higher sound pressure levels and more aggressive EQ settings.
Technics pitches the MKX at touring, club and festival DJs, plus scratch and performance specialists. It says the deck was developed with input from working DJs and sound engineers, for rooms where powerful systems, deep bass and long hours put heavy demands on equipment. “With the SL-1210MKX, we wanted to build on that legacy by working closely with professional DJs and sound technicians to better understand the challenges they face,” said Stefanie Baron, Manager Technics DJ Channel Europe at Panasonic Consumer Europe.
The MKX keeps the core-less direct-drive motor, with adjustable start-up torque and brake speed, and offers 78 rpm playback and reverse. A quieter reset switch is inspired by earlier SL-1200 models. The polished silver tonearm and black finish nod to the SL-1200MK2, the 1979 model that added quartz-controlled direct drive and the pro layout.
The launch coincides with the 55th anniversary of the SL-1200 series, which Technics dates to 1972. Further launch activity includes appearances at the Paris Audio Video Show and the Poland Audio Video Show. More information is at technics.com.
The SL-1210MKX goes on sale in January 2027 at £1,299 (€1,499).
