William Orbit, 69: Producer of Ray of Light and Ambient Electronica

William Orbit died at 69. His work as a producer, composer and electronic arranger shaped late twentieth century pop and ambient music. Notably he produced Madonna’s 1998 album Ray of Light and the All Saints single Pure Shores. He also collaborated with Blur, U2 and Beth Orton. Orbit’s Strange Cargo series explored ambient, downtempo and electronic textures. In 1999 his Pieces in a Modern Style reinterpreted classical works with electronic instrumentation, including a recognized version of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings.

These production credits, electronic classical experiments and recorded projects remain central to his legacy. Available sources list his date and place of death but do not provide further details on awards, chart positions or family statements.
