ZuckOff app uses Bluetooth to flag Meta and Snap glasses nearby

The free app detects Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Snap Spectacles and shows device type and rough distance. It has passed 6,000 downloads.

A free app called ZuckOff now tells you when someone nearby is wearing smart glasses. It uses Bluetooth to pick up Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Snap Spectacles models, then shows the device type and a rough distance from where you are standing.

Polish developer Pawel Szydlowski built it. It is on Google Play and Apple’s App Store and has been downloaded more than 6,000 times, Mixmag reported. A paid subscription tier sends alerts to your phone even when the app is closed.

The detection works by reading information the glasses broadcast, including UUID and manufacturer tags. “If the unique identifier matches, and also if the manufacturer identifier matches, then we have an ultimate combo there,” Szydlowski told Business Insider. His reasoning: “We, as a society, have the right to at least know that someone is recording.”

The app arrives as the glasses spread. A recent BBC News investigation found several cases of wearers filming women without consent and posting the footage on social media. Ray-Ban says it sold seven million units of its Meta models in 2025 alone.

Venues have started to respond. Last month New York’s BASEMENT banned smart glasses, extending its existing no-photo policy. London LGBTQIA+ festival Body Movements added them to its banned items ahead of this year’s edition. “It is not a place for surveillance culture, non-consensual filming or exploitation,” the festival said on Instagram. Anyone “caught using them at the festival or on the dancefloor” will be asked to delete the footage and leave the site.
